Memphis internet FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Memphis internet
Answers are based on provider information, City of
Memphis broadband-project information and FCC broadband
sources reviewed September 24, 2026.
What internet providers are available in Memphis?
Major providers with current Memphis service
information include Ting, AT&T, Xfinity and
Spectrum. Verizon and T-Mobile also offer
fixed-wireless home internet where individual
addresses qualify. AT&T may also offer
Internet Air where fiber service is not available.
The exact provider list can differ at an
individual location.
Does Memphis have Ting Fiber?
Yes. Ting is the internet service provider
associated with the Smart Memphis Fiber rollout
being built by mStreet Fiber. Ting currently
advertises direct fiber service up to 2 Gbps
symmetrical and maintains Memphis-specific
availability and installation information.
Availability depends on the progress of the fiber
build at the specific address.
What is Smart Memphis Fiber?
Smart Memphis Fiber is a City of Memphis public-
private broadband initiative involving mStreet
Fiber. The City says mStreet committed to delivering
affordable fiber broadband service to 85% of the
city's population, including neighborhoods that
have historically lacked high-speed internet.
Ting is the ISP associated with the residential
service rollout.
How fast is Ting Fiber in Memphis?
Ting currently advertises Home Fiber with speeds
up to 2,000 Mbps download and 2,000 Mbps upload.
Ting lists its Home Fiber price at $89 per month.
Availability and the ability to place an order
depend on the status of the network at the service
address.
Does Memphis have AT&T Fiber?
Yes. AT&T's Memphis fiber page says AT&T
Fiber is available in parts of Memphis and
advertises speeds up to 5 Gbps where available.
The specific fiber tier depends on the service
address.
Does Memphis have more than one fiber provider?
Memphis has AT&T Fiber and the separate Smart
Memphis Fiber infrastructure being built with
mStreet Fiber and served by Ting. The two networks
should not be assumed to overlap at every address.
During the Smart Memphis Fiber rollout, construction
status can also differ between nearby properties.
Is Xfinity available in Memphis?
Yes. Xfinity maintains a dedicated Memphis service
page and states that it provides internet service
in the Memphis area. Its current Memphis information
lists 300 Mbps and 500 Mbps residential options,
while current pricing and higher tiers depend on
the service address and applicable offers.
Is Spectrum available in Memphis?
Spectrum provides Internet service in its Memphis
service area. Its current Internet Gig plan
advertises speeds up to 1 Gbps and describes the
standard product as fiber-powered. Standard
Spectrum Internet should not automatically be
described as fiber-to-the-home because the final
connection may use coaxial cable.
Is 5G home internet available in Memphis?
Yes. T-Mobile maintains Memphis locations that
specifically list Home Internet, and Verizon
offers 5G Home Internet where its network and
service capacity support home service. AT&T
also offers Internet Air in eligible locations.
Mobile 5G coverage should not be treated as
identical to home-internet eligibility. Each
provider requires an address check.
Does Smart Memphis Fiber cover all of Memphis?
No citywide assumption should be made. The City
describes an 85% population commitment for the
Smart Memphis Fiber project, not 100% current
serviceability. The network is being built in
phases, and a property may not yet be fiber-ready
even if construction is underway nearby.
Does apartment living affect internet availability?
It can. A provider may have infrastructure serving
one building but not another nearby property.
New fiber deployments can also require property
owner or building access before a unit can be
connected. Apartment residents should enter the
complete building and unit information when
checking service.
Do I need a 2 Gig or 5 Gig internet plan?
Not necessarily. A multi-gig plan is most useful
when several users, wired devices or demanding
workloads can actually use the additional capacity.
Wi-Fi limitations, network hardware and the
capabilities of individual devices can prevent a
household from realizing the full advertised
connection speed.
What should I compare besides download speed?
Compare upload speed, regular monthly pricing
after promotions, equipment charges, installation,
data policies, contract terms and connection
technology. In Memphis, the difference between
symmetrical fiber, cable and fixed-wireless service
can be significant for large uploads, cloud backups,
remote work and multi-user households.
