Americans can now apply for $50 off discount on their monthly internet bill starting May 12, 2021 as part of an emergency government program to help people connected during the pandemic.
The $3.2 billion pandemic relief package signed by Biden administration includes government help to increase spending on broadband during the pandemic so that millions of Americans who did not have access to broadband and could not afford can get connected.
Your household is eligible if you receive food stamps, have a child in the free or reduced-price school lunch program, use Medicaid. You can also qualify if you made $99,000 or less for single filers, or $198,000 or less for joint filers.
The Emergency Broadband Benefit will provide a discount of up to $50 per month towards broadband service for eligible households and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands. Eligible households can also get a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
